Description
Psycards are a very special Oracle deck, created by English poet, Nick Hobson, more than 25 years ago.
The idea for the Psycards came to Nick in a dream. At the time, he was going through a difficult period in his life. In his own words:
I was, as it were, on a high place, looking down on my own life, and could see all the elements that had made me what I was, set out separately: the influences of my family, my background, my education, my friends, my fears, my hopes, my failures, spread out before me like fields in the plain below… The feeling I had was one of peace and control; it was my life, and comprehensible”.
On awakening, Nick felt compelled to create the Psycards, to provide others with the clarity he found in his own dream.
The Psycards system draws heavily on both poetry and psychoanalysis: two important influences on Nick Hobson’s life. The cards and images on them draw on Karl Jung’s ideas of “collective archetypes”. The symbols and imagery represent important characters, trait and issues that reoccur across different cultures and different periods in human history. As a result, the cards are very easy to connect with and start using effectively. Psycards are much simpler and more straightforward than Tarot cards for example. This has made them especially popular with people new to the space.
Psycards are not just popular with divination newbies, however. Many experienced Tarot readers use them to, and often find them complimentary to more traditional Tarot decks.
Now almost three decades old, Psycards are a modern classic. A fantastically approachable deck of cards, that people have connected with and use to find inner peace around the world.
